Hi,
UNFC Classification is widely used for Reserves and Resources calculation of minerals & fossil fuels.
UNFC Classification System is 3 Digit code classification based on "EFG" Axis, Economic Viability(1,2,3)[codes in decreasing order], Feasibility Assessment(1,2,3)[codes in decreasing order] & Geological Assessment(1,2,3,4)[codes in decreasing order], which clearly indicating the essential characteristics of energy and mineral commodities in market economies, combinations of these criteria create a three‐dimensional system, total 36 Classifications are available in UNFC, and 8 among them are widely used. The best or highest category in classification code is 111 and the worst or lowest in classification is 334. UNFC in simple terms is Total Mineral Resources= Reserves(normally has Proved Mineral Reserves (111) & Probable Mineral Reserves (121 & 122)) + Additional or Remaining Resources

UNFC 2004- Currently in use. From here its started including Oil, Natural Gas & Uranium
(Work for extension to petroleum and uranium initiated in 2001 by the UNECE Committee on Sustainable Energy decided, at its eleventh session in November 2001 & to create an Intergovernmental Ad Hoc Group of Experts on the Harmonization of Energy Reserves/Resources Terminology. the Ad Hoc Group of Experts was split into three sub-groups, covering separately coal and minerals, petroleum, and uranium, and they attempted to harmonize each commodity classification with the three major internationally recognized energy resource classifications, namely: the UN/CMMI for coal[i.e. CMMI/CRIRSCO Definitions for Mineral Reserves/Resources], the SPE/WPC/AAPG for petroleum and the IAEA/NEA for uranium.)
UNFC 1997- Here published for Solid Fuels and Mineral Commodities
(Work for extension for solid fuels and minerals commodities started in 1992 on the basis of a proposal made by the German Government, The same principles had already been applied in a classification originally developed by Mr. Dietmar Kelter, Federal Institute for Geo-sciences and Natural Resources, Hanover, in 1991)
UNFC 1947 – UNECE issued first coal classification(Citation needed)
UNFC in INDIA
In India, there is a large number of minerals of which exploration work has taken place at one time or other since long. The national mineral inventory database is maintained by the Indian Bureau of Mines (IBM) for non-coal solid minerals, by the Geological Survey of India (GSI) for coal and lignite, and by the Department of Petroleum & Natural Gas for oil and natural gas. Under the Indian Constitution, while State is the owner of mineral resources, the union Government has powers to make laws regulating exploration and mining.
The Government adopted the UNFC vide Gazette Notification No.185 dated 17.4.2003, through amendment to Mineral Conservation & Development Rules, 1988. UNFC also takes major part in new National Mineral Policy, 2008
